Our client is a family-owned building materials distributor with more than a century of history serving builders, remodelers, and contractors across Rhode Island and the broader New England region generating over $100M in annual revenue with more than 125 employees. The company has established a leading position in its market through deep customer relationships, specialized product expertise, and a service model centered on professional builders, remodelers, and contractors.

As the business prepares for its next stage of growth, ownership is focused on strengthening the operational infrastructure required to support greater scale, efficiency, and profitability.

The Opportunity

The Vice President of Operations will lead the operational performance of the business, overseeing transportation, logistics, fleet maintenance, facility operations, and service execution across the organization.

This executive will direct multiple functional leaders and own the systems, processes, and talent necessary to support an $100M distribution platform. The role requires balancing operational excellence with customer responsiveness while creating the structure and accountability needed to support future growth.

Working closely with commercial and executive leadership, the Vice President of Operations will improve productivity, strengthen management capability, optimize asset utilization, and ensure consistent service performance throughout the organization.

Success will be measured through operational efficiency, talent development, service execution, leadership bench strength, and the creation of a scalable operating platform capable of supporting the company’s long-term growth objectives.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

• Experience leading multiple operational functions through manager-level leaders
• Leadership responsibility within building materials, distribution, logistics, transportation, manufacturing, or related industries
• Proven record of improving operational performance, productivity, and service execution
• Expertise in transportation, logistics, delivery operations, fleet management, and workforce leadership
• Experience implementing performance metrics and accountability systems
• Strong financial acumen, including operational budgeting and profitability management
• Track record of developing operational leaders and building organizational capability
• Executive presence with the ability to influence across functions and leadership teams
• Strategic mindset combined with a highly visible, hands-on leadership approach
• Willingness to relocate and establish a long-term presence within the community served by the business
