The Business

Our client is a rapidly growing, multi-location building materials and home improvement retailer approaching $100 million in revenue.

The organization is expanding both organically and through acquisition, with plans to double the size of the business over the next four to five years.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Director of Merchandising & Marketing to take full ownership of the company’s merchandising strategy.

Reporting directly to the owner, this leader will oversee vendor relationships, product mix, purchasing strategy, inventory performance, advertising, promotional flyers, and store layout. The Director will also lead and develop a team of 3 buyers, 3 purchasing professionals, and marketing associates.

A national purchasing cooperative supports the majority of the company’s buying activity, providing scale and infrastructure. This is a high-autonomy, build-and-own role focused on improving inventory turns, GMROI, margin dollars, product availability, and merchandising consistency across locations.

What You Will Need to Be Successful

• Senior merchandising, purchasing, or category leadership experience
• Experience leading buying strategy within a $50 million or greater multi-location building materials or comparable retail business
• Proven ability to build merchandising programs, processes, and performance expectations
• Strong understanding of inventory turns, GMROI, gross margin, and margin-dollar improvement
• Experience managing product assortments, vendor relationships, promotions, and store merchandising
• Track record of building, developing, and mentoring merchandising and purchasing teams
• Ability to lead and develop a merchandising and purchasing team
• Ability to succeed in a high-autonomy, low-oversight environment
• Collaborative approach to working with ownership, sales, operations, finance, and store leadership
