The Business

Our client is an established multi-product distributor serving residential and commercial markets throughout the Midwest. With approximately $400 million in revenue and 25 locations, the organization has built its reputation around strong customer relationships, operational excellence, and a commitment to the markets it serves.

With a strong foundation in place and plans for continued expansion, the company is entering an important stage of growth and leadership evolution.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer who will serve as a pivotal partner in shaping, monitoring, and evaluating the organization’s strategy, with a focus on strengthening financial performance, operational effectiveness, and long-term value. Leading a finance team of 14, including two department managers, the CFO will be responsible for developing the team while ensuring the finance function continues to support the organization’s growth and evolving needs.

Central to this role is the ability to turn financial insight into action. This is an operational CFO opportunity requiring a leader who will spend meaningful time in the locations, build relationships across sales and operations, and develop a strong understanding of what drives performance throughout the business.

The CFO will lead the company’s five-year strategic planning process and partner closely with the Board and executive leadership team to establish priorities, evaluate opportunities, and maintain alignment around the organization’s growth objectives.

The ideal candidate will bring strong financial discipline while operating as a strategic business partner. Success will require the ability to quickly understand the company’s operations, customers, and value drivers while using financial and operational data to drive informed business decisions.

What You Will Need to Be Successful

  • Senior finance leadership experience within a large-scale, multi-location distribution organization
  • Experience within distribution
  • Proven ability to serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership and the Board
  • Strong financial, accounting, planning, and risk management expertise
  • Track record of building, developing, and leading high-performing finance teams
  • Ability to turn financial and operational data into actionable business decisions
  • Strong partnership across sales, operations, and other functional areas
  • Experience leading long-range strategic planning and supporting organizational growth
  • Operational curiosity and a willingness to spend meaningful time in the locations understanding what drives performance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within multi-product distribution, or a closely related multi-location business
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred
  • Experience supporting expansion into new markets
  • Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and analytical capabilities
  • Proven ability to navigate both strategic and tactical priorities with a strong execution mindset

Leadership Fit

We are looking for a pragmatic, approachable, low-ego, and customer-focused leader who can build credibility and trusted relationships throughout the organization.

The right CFO will respect what has made the company successful while bringing the financial leadership, structure, and strategic perspective necessary for its next chapter. This is an opportunity for a CFO who wants to be close to the business, influence how it operates, and play a meaningful role in shaping where it goes next.
