Business Development Manager – MN

Our client is a $200 million commercial plumbing contractor with 1,000 employees, operating as part of a larger construction services organization. They serve the Minneapolis, MN metro area with a strong reputation for quality execution and reliable project delivery. As an established player in the commercial plumbing market, the company combines the operational strength and financial backing of a well-resourced organization with the agility and customer focus that defines successful specialty contractors. Their project portfolio spans tenant improvements, retail and office buildouts, restaurants and hospitality, medical and professional buildings, and other commercial construction applications, serving general contractors, developers, and building owners throughout the region.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As Business Development Manager, you will drive new construction revenue by building relationships and developing a healthy pipeline of commercial plumbing projects across the Twin Cities metro area. This is a true hunter role for someone who thrives on prospecting, relationship building, and converting opportunities into profitable work.

You will own the full sales cycle – from identifying opportunities and conducting discovery conversations to developing competitive proposals and closing deals. Working closely with operations, you will ensure proposals align with the company’s capabilities while meeting customer needs for scope, schedule, and budget. This role offers the opportunity to build something entrepreneurial within a well-established organization, with the operational support and resources needed to win and deliver quality plumbing projects.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Hunter mentality with 5+ years of proven success in plumbing, MEP, or subcontractor business development, specifically in small commercial or small project construction
  • Strong prospecting and relationship-building skills with existing connections to Minneapolis/St. Paul -area general contractors, developers, and building owners preferred
  • Deep understanding of plumbing scopes, estimating coordination, and construction sales cycles with the ability to lead discovery conversations and identify customer needs
  • Demonstrated ability to own the full sales cycle from initial contact through proposal development, negotiation, and close
  • Highly organized and disciplined approach to pipeline management with CRM experience (Salesforce preferred) and accurate forecasting capabilities
  • Consultative sales approach with strong communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with operations teams to develop competitive, profitable proposals
  • Self-directed and results-oriented with excellent follow-through and the ability to represent the company professionally at job walks, pre-bid meetings, and customer meetings
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally throughout the Twin Cities metro area
